If you love to laugh and to make others laugh, you will not want to miss the Bold-Faced Liars Showdown. It is guaranteed to be a hoot! The Storytelling & Arts Center of the Southeast (SACS) in Laurinburg, NC, will present its fifth Bold-Faced Liars? Showdown on Jan. 21, 2012, at its performance center, 131 South Main Street.

Storytellers, 16 years old and above, who have imaginative lies to share, are invited to enter the competition. Prizes will be awarded to the 3 finalists and certificates will be given to all competitors. There is also a People’s Choice Award. Winners will be announced at the evening show and the winners will have a chance to tell their lies again. For application forms to enter the competition, and to review competition criteria and rules, go here. Start now creating your tall tale so you can be a great competitor for the January competition.

The great news - Kim Weitkamp will be the Chief Judge and the evening performer. She is a favorite for audiences across the country. New this year and an added bonus, the first place winner will be a new voice at the Storytelling Festival of Carolina, if they have not told at the festival previously. If you are not a teller of fibs, you still will not want to miss this fun-filled event. Tickets to the event can be purchased by mail and are $10 for the afternoon, $10 for the evening, or $15 for both. For tickets, call 910-277-3599.

News flash! Kim Weitkamp workshop will be on January 22, the day after the Liars' Showdown.

*Marketing the Intangible*:

As artists of the intangible, it can be hard to market our product. Marketing tends to be a looming brick wall for most storytellers - but do not fear. In this workshop we will deconstruct the wall, brick by brick, and teach you how to build a solid foundation on which to market your storytelling.

Participants will learn how to:

  •  - Define their product
  •  - Package their product
  •  - Recognize their customers
  •  - Identify their market
  •  - Figure out pricing
  •  - Earn some level of living from their art
  •  - Learn booking techniques
  •  - Gain understanding of where they are now - and how to reach their goals Participants are asked to bring all currently used marketing products with them.

Hope to see you there.
